Dance Moms

Dance Moms is a reality show about the Abby Lee Miller Dance Company, the young girls who perform as part of her junior competition team and their mothers. It’s full of exaggerated drama and screaming and general madness.

This is new find of mine thanks to Sia’s music video for Chandelier that I mentioned in my Songs I’m Loving post a little while back. I am completely obsessed with this at the moment and it’s what I pop on in every spare moment whether I’m reading blogs or relaxing. It’s both hilarious and exhausting but the women on this programme make me feel infinitely less crazy. I like the drama but then you get to see some absolutely amazing dancing and it’s just a really great combination of the two. Chloe is easily my favourite of the dancers although they are all incredibly talented little girls who don’t get nearly enough credit for what they do.

Face Off

Face off is “a competition show exploring the world of special-effects make-up artists. Each episode involves incredible reveals of the competitors’ finished work, and the drama of one contestant being sent home by the panel of expert and celebrity judges.”

I’ve been following this show since it started and it is one of my favourite competition reality shows. This season hasn’t been as exciting in my opinion and I’m still waiting for a real wow moment. That being said I thoroughly enjoyed the Judge’s challenge episode last week, it was really interesting to see them sweat for a change because sometimes I wonder if they’re a little too harsh considering the contestants get barely any time. Although I will say that I think the wrong judge won… I think this season is lacking someone to root for, I can’t think of any of the contestants names off the top of my head and we’re already a few episodes in. There definitely aren’t any Laura’s in this bunch.

America’s Next Top Model

Just in case you’ve never seen it, where have you been? ANTM is another competition show where hopeful models complete challenges in order to win the final prize.

Another long term favourite of mine, I’m always happy when ANTM starts up again. It’s only been a couple of episodes so far but I reckon it’s shaping up pretty nicely. There are a lot of beautiful girls and a couple of attractive guys. Let’s take a moment to appreciate Matthew’s face… and now we’re moving on. I’m still not fond of the new scoring system but hey ho, it’s still a great, entertaining show and that would never put me off entirely.

So You Think You Can Dance

Guess what, another competition show, but this time with dancing! No really, it’s the same thing but dancers compete for the prize.

I am actually really behind on this and I think the season might have finished already (please don’t tell me who won) but I absolutely love love love this programme. The dancing is amazing (I usually have a little cry at least once an episode) and there are great personalities who you really want to root for in absolutely every season. I can’t wait to watch the last few episodes of this because it always gets super fun when the all stars are added in. I wish they hadn’t cancelled the UK version after just one or two seasons, I reckon it had more potential than that.

Project Runway

I think we’re sensing a pattern here. I really like competition reality shows, okay? Project Runway is where fashion designers compete in challenges every week and get judged on their creations.

This is another show I’ve followed from the beginning, I think when I discovered it I went back and watched from season one just so I could catch up. The designers always create some amazing and some absolutely awful things, there are rivalries and great innovative challenges so I really do feel entertained every time I turn this on. At the moment I’m loving Amanda and Kini but really it’s early days yet.
